Profile

Rebecca Roiphe is a leading voice in criminal law and ethics.听 She writes both scholarly and popular pieces on the legal profession, prosecutors, and criminal justice. She recently completed her service as 51传媒在线视频鈥檚 Co-Dean for Faculty Scholarship.

Prior to joining 51传媒在线视频, Professor Roiphe worked as a Manhattan prosecutor. She also served as a law clerk for The Honorable Bruce Selya, U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. She draws on her professional experiences and her training as a historian in her writing. Her scholarship emphasizes the important, mediating role prosecutors play in American democracy and examines the country鈥檚 tradition of prosecutorial independence, particularly with regard to the President鈥檚 power to control the Department of Justice.

Professor Roiphe鈥檚 opinion pieces have appeared in听The New York Times, Slate, The听New York Review of Books,听Politico,听The Washington Post, and other popular press. She is frequently quoted as an expert on legal ethics and criminal justice in the media, including in听The New York Times,听The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg News, and the听New York Law Journal. Professor Roiphe appears regularly on MSNBC and CNN, and she is a contributing legal analyst at CBS News.听 Professor Roiphe is also active on national and state bar committees and recently completed a term on the Mayor鈥檚 Advisory Council on the Judiciary.
